Hobbies of Our Book Sale Volunteers

Jai Khalsa - I collect, repair & restore antique & vintage sewing machines. My current collection is ~50-60 machines. These include handcrank and treadle machines. Most of the sewing machines range in production date from the 1860s-70s to the mid-1960s. Not only do I collect the machines but I use them as well. I try to limit my collection to machines that actually sew a good stitch. I like researching the history of the machines and the manufacturers as well. I also collect printed material and accessories from sewing machines. I hope to eventually start a small research library of these printed materials.

flagger

Katie Sterling - I volunteer at Watkins Glen International Raceway as a Flagger. Racing is my passion and I love to share it with anyone interested!!! Our web address is www.rsiwgi.com or www.theglen.com

Marianne Mellinger - I do counted cross stitch for relaxation. I started cross stitching as a young girl on those pre-stamped towels and such and couldn't imagine what counted cross-stitch would be like but when I tried it I was hooked.

handbells

Sara Jane Hymes - I enjoy ringing Handbells at St Pauls UMC and have been doing so for more than 25 years! Each person who rings in a handbell choir usually rings 3 or 4 bells and sometimes 7-8 (the higher bells, where people play the octave higher bells also). Our choir has a 5 octave set of both handbells, and handchimes--which are sort of like 'sticks', and sound much different. One must be able to count very well to play handbells, because you only play when your note is written on the music and you must count to come in on time!
