Community Organization Grants

Part of the Mission of the Friends of the Library is to support the community and to place more books and materials in the hands of more people. The Community Organizations Grants Committee is specifically charged with doing what the library cannot do, reaching people where they live. We do this by making grants to non-profit organizations serving Tompkins County residents for reading-related, literacy or skills development programs or projects.

New as of 2012! Funds for the Friends of the Library’s Community Organization grants are increasingly limited. As a result, applications that serve those in greatest need will receive preference over those programs or projects with a broad focus.

Applications will be considered during two funding rounds in 2012. The due dates are March 15 and September 10. Please submit completed applications as an attachment to an email to Community Organization Grants Committee. It can also be mailed to the Friends of the Library, 509 Esty Street, Ithaca, NY 14850, Attn: COG Committee. All applications must be received by 5:00 p.m. to be considered by the committee. Decisions will be made within two weeks of the due date.

The Application Form requires the following information: name and purpose of the non-profit organization, description of the program or project, links to public library programs or projects (if any), the specific amount requested, total project cost and an explanation of the expected results or outcomes.

To be eligible, non-profit organizations should primarily serve Tompkins County residents. Contact the Community Organization Grants Committee for more information or to discuss your proposal.
