There are lots of things to do at the 509 Esty Street building.
One major task is sorting thousands of donated books into nearly 70 subject categories. This job is handled by our rough sorters. Category sorters refine this preliminary sorting still further. It seems overwhelming but our team of volunteers makes it happen. And it is very important; it's the level of sorting which makes our sale stand out from many others.
Another area of volunteer opportunity is helping with the office work. Do you like to file or make phone calls? What about taking the plastic covers off books? Each one of these tasks is necessary for the successsful operation of our book sale projects.
We don’t require a long-term commitment. You don't have to volunteer for a specific time or a specific number of hours. Our volunteers come when they can. Some of our volunteers work less than 10 hours a year. So, please join us.
We do not allow Book Dealers to volunteer.

Volunteering during the Year
Rough and category sorters are encouraged to come during the sorting hours listed below.
As we move through the year, sorting hours are changed as needed; additional sorting hours may be added to
accommodate our volunteers' schedules or the number of donations.

Sorting schedule:
Tuesday - 9:00am-3:00pm, 5:00pm-9:00pm
Wednesday - 12:00-3:00pm
Thursday - 9:00am-3:00pm, 4:00pm-7:00pm
Saturday - 9:00am-12 noon
Sunday - 9:00am-12 noon
New volunteers are welcome to come for orientation at this time.
Category sorters are encouraged to work in their sections during rough sorting hours.
