Friends of the Library Booksale Project

Each year, the Friends of the Tompkins County Public Library holds two book sales, one in the Spring and another in the Fall, to benefit organizations working for literacy in Tompkins County. Our special partners in this are Tompkins County Public Library (TCPL) and the Finger Lakes Library System (FLLS)

TCPL   FLLS

The number of items available for each sale usually exceeds 250,000.We have been told by many who attend that we are one of the best organized book sales they have attended. Thanks to our many volunteers, our sales have been extremely successful.

We offer a further thanks to those who donate books and to those who buy them at our sales so that we may continue to support the libraries in our community.

Textbooks

During the first weekend of the sale, textbooks published in 2005 or after will be sold at the far end of the checkout area. They will be priced $20 on Saturday, $15 on Sunday, and $10 on Monday. They will be returned to the appropriate section for the following weekends.

Collector's Corner

Be sure to visit Collector's Corner where special books and video sets are kept. The items in Collector's Corner are priced individually and payment must be made before leaving the Collector's Corner room. Check out the extra special items housed in the locked case.

Paying

Every cashier accepts cash, credit and debit cards, and checks, with proper identification.

Not-For-Profit Day

Bring a photo ID and a letter on official letterhead from your organization. It should identify you as eligible to take books for your organization and should state what the books will be used for. If you are a teacher, your school photo ID is all that is required. If you are a homeschooler, you must bring a letter on official letterhead confirming that you are a registered homeschooler in the Tompkins county area, along with your photo ID.

  • All books are free and you may take as many as you wish.
  • None of these books may be returned to the Friends at a later date.
  • Children are not permitted at this event.
  • Bring your own bags or boxes.
